Artist Statement

Dance is not only the art form in which I use to materialize expression into the world, it is the very thing that allows me to investigate reality and navigate life. Dance is practiced embodiment. This practiced embodiment exists at the core of everything I believe as it relates to dance as a choreographic and improvisational pursuit. To practice embodying others’ ideas, concepts, feelings, and emotions is to exchange and generate knowledge from one historied body to another. This is true for both practitioners and spectators of dance.

My body of choreographic work stands as a testament to my belief in this, exploring both important topics and different creative modalities such as chance, "expressionless" form, loneliness, reflection, power, and so on. How this sharing of knowledge manifests itself in my choreographic process is through my striving for collaborative spirit and diversity, where stories are shared and honored, individuals’ needs are met honestly, and group decisions are encouraged. My mission is to build trust, operate with integrity, facilitate transformation, and pursue excellence.
